467. Shiraz- the Town Of Beautiful Ones
If from the rock of Badakhshan ruby comes out
From mountain gorge, Rukni water comes sweet (1)
In the Shiraz town, at door of every house-n-hut
Comes out a graceful, heart-ravishing sweetheart (2)
Kazi, Sheikh, judge, ombudsman, at theirs’ seat
Unadulterated wine, rose-hue ye find abundant (3)
In a state of ecstacy but hypocrisy, on the pulpit
From the admonish’r’s turban, see hemp manifest (4)
In the gardens, morn or evening is singer’s note
With harp’s twang comes nightingale’s lament (5)
Such a town where friend absent, grief abundant
Strait of heart, Hafiz won’t stay, must get an exit (6)
